Born and raised in the small town of Great Falls, SC, growing up Curt did not experience the diversity of musical culture. This created a blank canvas and gave him the room to imagine and be inspired without boundaries. He grew up primarily in church and had dreams of becoming a professional drummer. His plan changed when his uncle suggested he play the piano at 17 years old. He quickly fell in love with it and his musicianship grew. Curt says he always liked producing and making beats but during his college years he grew to love performing and writing music. Curt released his debut single “I Forgot to Say I Love You” in 2017 and his debut album, Love or the Lack Thereof in 2018. It gained outstanding support from the music community and some notable successes such as releasing in the top #20 on Amazon Music’s R&B charts. In 2019 the Great Falls Native earned a Stellar Award for his songwriting and composing skills alongside gospel artist Keith Wonderboy Johnson and R&B legend Spanky Williams. During the pandemic Keyz leaned into storytelling and the importance of his mental health. This introspection along with the social climate gave him the strength to release a passion project titled Black Heart. The passion of this project paved the way for him to release his sophomore album, “CURT(IS).” He says creating this project “was nothing short of amazing.” Curt collaborated with world class producers, musicians and singers to help him encompass his journey through music. The album highlights his dynamic personality and acts as a magnifying glass over his life. “Music means everything to me, as a producer, my music is fueled by authenticity. As far as my artistry – I’d like to think Marvin Gaye meets Frank Ocean with southern charm.” Although it’s hip-hop and jazz that peaked his interest in arranging and producing music Curt is making his own niche through his influences.
